Let's learn Danish!
There was a mass stampede a few weeks ago when someone discovered a truly lovely shawl and wondered where the pattern could be purchased. A Yahoo group was immediately formed for the sole purpose of begging the designer to make it available.
Well, one thing leads to another and I started galloping around Scandinavian web sites in search of the pattern. I couldn't find it, but I did find something else:
This book is full of mouthwatering designs--mostly sweaters--but a few bags, hats, and scarves are tucked into the back. The designs incorporate a pleasing amount of lace in just the right proportion.
This sweater is truly charming:
And this one is just delectable...
It's difficult to see the detail here, but the designer incorporated the Frost Flowers pattern into the hood and front placket.
And I don't think this design needs any words from me:
You can purchase the book here and here. If you have a better place to shop, here is the info:
Feminin strik
by Lene Holme Samsøe
ISBN: 8711265965
ISBN-13: 9788711265963
Price: 229,00 Danish Kroner
Saxo ships internationally and Danish bears enough resemblance to German, which bears enough resemblance to English, that I didn't have any trouble figuring out how to order. The use of the Roman alphabet was refreshing!
Alas, the entire book is in Danish. The good news is that Danish knitting terms are relatively easy to master. For example, go here for a list. And perhaps some enterprising person will start a few KALs for this book. Hope so!

Nice book...... thanks for your comments am going to 'play' later and see how it looks :)
Absolutely gorgeous! But, shipping to the US is 238DKK or approx $44 - more than the price of the book. Sigh...
Too bad about the shipping costs -- the patterns look wonderful. I always fall for patterns with lace hoods. Norah Gaughan had a gorgeous one in Interweave Knits a while ago -- I am going to do it as soon as I decide how I want to make the sweater longer (it's a cropped style).
You are back for one day and have the nerve to post this temptation? I better lock up my credit card...
The designs look really lovely. Which are you doing first?
Looks wonderful, I better have a closer look at it soon.
Another DK-ENG dictionary

This place ships internationally and shipping is the actual postage. You can deduct 20% (VAT) of the price if shipped outside the EU.

Lene Holme Samsøe is a very gifted designer. She has also published "Sødt og Blødt, strik til små prinser og prinsesse", a book with cute baby knits.
Interesting how those web searches turn up things. I hit on that same shawl and went googling myself and somehow made my way to the WRS :) That book looks wonderful!
Drool....
Thank you Fleegle! I'm just so into lace knitting these days (maybe it's the weather?), although I probably cannot buy this one immediately, I'll bookmark it for sure!
Such an enabler! I did not purchase Feminin Strik because the shipping costs of $38 were just too much. But, after looking at other things knitted by "Queen Mud" I ended up going to yesasia.com and spending $70! And this after a spree ealier this week at lacis.com!
Shame on you! I'm broke till Xmas!
(But I still want a copy...of course.)
I've been drooling over this book as well. Maybe it bears enough resemblance to German that I can work my way through it! Is there a KAL where we can all piece together the patterns? Someone start a KAL!
now that is some gorgeous lace garments.
Heh... I've learned to read all sorts of languages because I was cataloging books about US immigration -- written in just about every language immigrants to the US speak, which is... well, everything, from Finnish to Icelandic and Welsh. There was some Chinese, but I needed some help with that.
So, Danish is not too bad. You can do it. That last lace cardi alone is worth the effort!
You really were busy on the internet while you were away. I'll bet your credit card is on fire! I have so much to knit already that I would have to be insane to buy one more book on lace, much less one in Danish. Still, if there were a pattern for that stunning shawl you have a link to, I do belive I would have made room in the old collection. You are such a temptress:-)
If you check on Queen Mudd's blog, there is a message that the shawl pattern will be available in August. Not sure about a translation.
The shawl is lovely. The central leaf pattern is from A Gathering of Lace (Eugen Beugler's Frost Flowers and Leaves shawl ), so I don't think it will be any problem to anyone who has that book. It's a bit complicated pattern, but worth of trouble.
I'm one of those who think danish isn't a problem. I know swedish and those two languages are quite alike.
That cardigan at the end is truly lovely. My, "want-to-make-this-before-the-end-of-the-year-list" is already a bit overcrowded but....
I've just bought this book and I love a lot of the designs in there, particularly Cirkeltroje! Now, I'm just hoping I can manage to decipher the instructions and make it work! Are you planning on knitting any of the projects from the book?
It seems to be no longer available. I'll have to look and see if any copies made it to Iceland when I go for New Years.
Just learned that feminin strikk is now offered at Nordic Fiber Arts$49. with a 5dollar shipping fee. They are going to have a sheet with the norwegian terms translated and the jackets in it are just beautiful. I guess imported books are pricey these days, but the styles are nicer than LACE STYLE imho.
I need help finding someone with the corrections for the Free Patons Heirloom Shawl - posted on a Canadian Living site, apparently it is an older pattern, the Patons site no longer offers it, and wants people to buy a book now.
I did a web search for corrections, and your blog came up.
