Well, actually, Booties! Rubber puddlersplashers! They go perfectly with the slippers I received from Kyoko-san for my birthday.
Sue, at Little Knits, supplied the yarn for stash enhancement presents.
A bit of gorgeous Trenna...
Some soft angora from Fly Designs...
And a skein of Little Knit's own Indie II cashmere/silk.
My major gift, though, may seem a bit weird for a knitter. Ever since I can remember, my crochet hook collection, inherited from a variety of ancestors, resided in the tatty case shown on the left in the photo below. The hooks are old (some of them bone and ivory), but most of them have the thin steel handles that make my hands hurt. I don't do a lot of crochet work, but when I do, I have to stop every few minutes to rest. Finishing Lyra, what with zillions of crochet chains, was a miserable experience.
As of now, the old set (with a few exceptions) is on the way to Goodwill, having been replaced by the spiffy roll (courtesy of Etsy stores) shown on the right.
here's the entire set:
And the fat, hand-crafted handles are covered with colorful flowers, bugs, and butterflies...
And finally, a perfect necklace for a knitting fiend:
For some reason, the makers didn't see fit to etch the needle sizes next to the appropriate holes....we'll take it to a jeweler and have it engraved. Guess I'll have the jeweler inlay some extravagant gemstones into the sterling silver surface, too. (Just kidding, Dear!).
As a timely bonus, I received a Thank You gift from a friend in England. A skein of Suzanne's Sockenwolle, a little tin of hand cream, some adorable sheep stitch markers, elegant buttons, a lovely handmade shawl pin/hair stick/oil level tester (Just kidding, Hazel!), and a handmade Russian doll pin.
Stay tuned for the amazing knitted eggs, later this week.
You got some nice stuff for Christmas! Love the boots :)
ReplyDeletegreat haul. i'm not much for jewwelry, but that necklace is a perfect combination of fornm and function....
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff! I specially like the handles on the crochet hooks. Note I say the handles. I have gazzilions of hooks and all of them make my hands hurt. I guess I am a knitter!
ReplyDeleteNice haul! That cashmere silk has a beautiful glow, and your new boots gave me a good chuckle.
ReplyDeleteMy eyes!!!!! How dare you!!!! Show off your knitting porn like that!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat booty! Great boots, lovely yarn & I've always loved these needle gauge necklaces.
ReplyDeleteJust an fyi: the yarn at the bottom is called Wollmeise (Woolcraft). It's dyed by a lovely woman named Claudia-- and is the Suzanne colorway.

(click the wee US/English flag at top-- otherwise it's in German)

Love the Trenna yarn; am drooling over the sheen and colorway. Nice crochet hook set. I am hoping to make felted holders for all my needle set after the first of the year. The wellies are too cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome haul! I especially love those boots and the crochet hooks. The right tools are so essential.
ReplyDeleteOoh! You could get the jewels embedded in the form of numbers so you wouldn't have to get it engraved! Or you could do 1 diamond for size ones, 2 diamonds for size 2's.....
ReplyDeleteAll that yarn... I think my favorite is Suzannes Sockenwolle. Those colors! And I love the crochet hooks with the colorful flower handle.
ReplyDeleteBut... sorry, my most favorite thing on your list are those boots. Nothing like happy froggy boots to make you smile when it's all gray and gloomy outside.
WOW
ReplyDeleteNice Xmas presents!!
What are the cro hook handles made of?
nice stash enrichment.... I like the wollmeise sock wool....

ReplyDeletehave done embroidery on and off most of my life, I did my C&G in Creative embroidery back in 1996 but have to confess I struggle with design etc.... I like traditional techniques too esp silk shading & metal thread work I don't really do a lot at the moment knitting & spinning taken over a bit but I will try and get back into it in 2008. I've never put any embroidery up on my blog in answer to your question...
ReplyDeleteThe new needle case certainly rocks - which etsy seller did you get it from? I soo love the colours :)
ReplyDeleteand I'm sure you'll love the Wollmeise yarn, it's one of the best out there!
Dear Peachy--
ReplyDeleteI am sorry--I don't recall which Etsy site we got the crochet roll from. If you search for crochet roll, you will find it.
Somehow I find the idea of a needle gauge without size markings hysterically funny. Perhaps in lieu of getting it engraved (there doesn't appear to be much extra space) you can make up a companion piece that has numbers in the corresponding hole positions?
ReplyDeleteGreat boots! Slippers, too. The crochet hooks were an especially thoughtful gift, in addition to being really cute. All in all, you made out really well this year! :)
I have a vibrating pen that was came from someplace like Home Depot. You can easily write what the needle sizes are on your new gift.
ReplyDeleteLove the boots and crochet hooks.
Beautiful yarn and what a lovely taste in color and texture you have (I am so impartial)!
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you, which I shall email off blog, please watch for it.
Happy New Year!

Beautiful hooks...love the pretty handles! I have all the very old hooks that were my grandmother's and mothers. Lots have the bone handles. Don't crochet much, but I wouldn't part with them.
ReplyDeletehappy knitting :)
