I can't decide if I like it enough to knit it. What do you think?
I hate to say this, because it's really cute, but...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it going to look silly when you fold it up to wear it? I can't think of a way to wear it that isn't going to ruin all the work put into knitting it.
I could imagine knitting it and hanging it in my daughter's room (but I could never actually focus long enough to knit a design like that. It would drive me bonkers.) I think the designer is brillant though...

Now see, I didn't actually think the Dragone shawl looked that wearable. Yeah, it's triangular, so you will actually be able to SEE the pattern when you wear it, but it's looks so pointy on the corners that it kinda put me off.

I'm really ambivalent about this pattern. It's beautiful, but I see it as more of a wall hanging then a wearable shawl.

ReplyDeleteOk, I'm not really a knitter so my thoughts may not count. When I first saw it I thought it was wonderful for a wall hanging or throw. Then I went to the web site (by the way, the link did not work for me) and there were shawls on there that I would love to knit if only I could!

I'm not even thinking - I already purchased it. However, even looking at this photo, there are quite a lot of things I'm going to change. The wings don't look too good, do they? And what's with the horse's tail? It looks like the head of a werewolf or something similar, attached to the rear end of this beautiful creature.
ReplyDeleteIt is a showpiece, and I just can't resist the challenge, no matter how unwearable it may be.
It's pretty, but I wouldn't knit it, certainly not as a shawl.
ReplyDeleteI think the tail is ... strange. Looks like the horse has gas or something. And there's a lot of ... air. I mean, between the earth and the clouds and around the horse. I really like most of the other stuff Sharon has done -- love the Dragone, and the Filigree and the Snowflake -- but this one just doesn't quite sit right with me for some reason.
ReplyDeleteit Sharon's Fern Garden Stole, and I love it, the Dragone is at the top of my "Coming up" lost, but this one just doesn't do it for me. It's gorgeous, there's so much work involved, and I appreciate her talent, but I wouldn't knit it.

About that shawl...please don't.
Not feeling the love for this one that I have for Dragone. Part of that is the unwearableness of it. Square shawls are meant to be folded on the diagonal, for the most part.
ReplyDeleteAlso not liking the tail weirdness and the way the texture of 'cloud and hill' just don't relate to the rest of the design.
If I want to do something that pictorial, I'll weave a tapestry or stitch another Teresa Wentzler design.
I don't like it. In general I don't like figures in knits. That's me here

Ditto ditto--it's not wearable. As an afghan for my 14 year-old niece, yes. But no, not as a shawl or something on my bod.
ReplyDeleteIt has some pretty elements to it but it is definitely NOT my kinda thing. I agree with everyone else about its unwearability. The Dragons shawl was beautiful, especially when I saw your finished shawl but this is just...weird, especially the flaming tail stuff...
ReplyDeleteYou are such a talented knitter. You have the ability to take unusualy complex patterns and make them even more complex and beautiful--when you take Harry's advice. :)
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would you knit this? Sure, it's kind of a cool design for a high school girl--or boy as the case may be. But for you? No way! I much prefer to see you knit the patterns Harry picks.

ReplyDeleteHarry didn't like it either. He snorted when he saw the design, which apparently lacked spider webs.
Then he dropped six more designs on my foot before taking off for his poker game. He is keeping me busy, I must say.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was striking when I first looked at it but it doesn't grab me neither. Too much black! The tail is definitely weird too and it doesn't measure up to the wonderful spider shawl! Love all those beautiful yarns you are swatching though!! Happy Knitting!
ReplyDeletenice to hang on a wall, but no I wouldn't knit it... I think you'd get bored knitting it and I don't think you'd feel like you were lace knitting despite using a lace yarn....
ReplyDeleteI got sent that notice in my E-Mail too but I have not even started my Dragone pattern yet. I have to say that I have no idea how you could actually wear it and still see the pattern but it might still be fun for you to knit it. I don't get the same buzz off it as for the Dragone though.

ReplyDeleteoh, and you'll be glad to know that there are 6 (yes, 6) balls of the cashmere silk Yubina winging -- no, that would be slow-boating, wouldn't it-- their way to me. :)
I'm not real crazy about it either. I think I've been looking at the picture too long, too, because the horse's tail thing is beginning to look like a set of small wings attached to the forehead of a wig.
