The Lazy Knitter strikes again. I got so tired of looking up yardage, that I put together a spreadsheet of all the lace yarns I could think of. You can view the HTML version here and download the XLS version here.
If you have any additions or corrections, please let me know, and I will update the spreadsheet with new information.
17 rows left on the BWSK border!
That is an awesome undertaking. It's a really great resource!
ReplyDeletewow,
ReplyDeletethat is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. Although I run an yarn shop, most of those names are unknown to me, since they are not available here in Europe. For that I might send you a list of some of the lace yarns we have here:-)
I saw on the list material called Possum - what is that? It doesn´t come from the little animals, does it?
Greetings from Cologne
Daniela
Wow, this is great. I am rather new at lace knitting and have to shop online, because there are no LYS's here who do things like lace yarn. I am now starting to think, that doing my first project with 'merino lace' from Heirloom might be a bit ambitious but I have not run into real trouble yet.
ReplyDeleteDaniela, Possum Lace is indeed made from little animals. These possum are found in New Zealand, where they are considered a pest. They are not the same as American posssum. You can read about the yarn here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.yarnmarket.com/yarn/Cherry_Tree_Hill_Yarn-Possum_Laceweight_Yarn-672.html
And you can read about possums in general here:

Please do send me information about the yarns you carry. I wll add them to the spreadsheet.
Additions and corrections welcome!
That is great. Thanks so much for taking the time for this. There are two LYS in my area, and each carries exactly one type of lace yarn. So internet ordering is my only lace option.
ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you for providing this.
ReplyDeleteAs always you amaze me with the helpful things you do for all of us.
ReplyDeleteThank you
This is an amazing resource, especially for those of us who are less experienced with lace yarns. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteDear fleegle,
ReplyDeleteAs always, a wonderful resource for all of us. I can't wait to see the finished shawl!
It's terrific! btw, the Skacel entry is flip-flopped--"Merino Lace" is in the company column.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI took the liberty of doing a little bit of formatting and then converted the spreadsheet to a .pdf for myself.
Let me know if you'd like me to email it to you, and where to send it.
Thank you for doing this research!

That's awesome! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHave you planned a project for the red Baruffa Cashwool you got in your gift basket a while back? I've got a skein in my stash too, and I'm not sure what to do with it!
Thanks so much for this - with your help, I was finally able to answer my burning question about yarn choice for Ene's Scarf from Scarf Style.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS! thank you! I spotted an error for one of the yarns, fyi. Maine Line 2/20 from Jaggerspun should be 5600 yards per pound, not 6500 yards as listed on the spreadsheet.
ReplyDeletehello, no problem! I spotted another error as well. Helen's Lace is actually handpainted Zephyr (it's from the same mill) so it should be 5040 yd/lb. I'm not doing math on every line, don't worry! just noticed those two because I was looking up yardage this evening. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's fabulous! thanks so much. it will really come in handy.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this lovely reference.
ReplyDeleteDoes Jaggerspun Heather have the same spec.'s as Maine Line, so it's not listed?

Um, I dunno what ply# means, but Fino is 2 strands, rather tightly twisted together.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great reference. Karabella produces a number of lace-weight yarns that could be added to your spreadsheet, here is the link:

Many thanks in advance.

What a FABULOUS CHART! Thank you so much for sharing all that hard work!
ReplyDeleteI do have one question though. I thought the Valley Yarns lace wt. was 1700-something yards. I just checked their site again and that's still how I understand it. Can you please tell me what I'm missing?
Thanks so much (especially since I bought it to make something requiring 1700 yards!)

marilynz99 on yahoooooooooo
This is great. Now can someone find a cotton lace yarn? I do miniature knitting & crocheting (for dollhouse enthusiasts) and find cotton to be best, because it has the 'limp' quality I want.
ReplyDeleteGoodstuff! Thanks for the resource ... :)
