Someone asked for a photo of the pin/lighter process. Here you go.
First, stick the pin through the cable.
Second, heat the tip of the pin with the lighter for about 5 seconds.
Let everything cool (about ten more seconds).
Note: Do not touch the pin during the heating process or you will get an uneven and ragged hole. Wonder how I discovered this result.
thank you so much. i have a set of those needles and i am going to give that a try.
ReplyDeleteSo ingenious!
ReplyDeleteDear fleegle,
ReplyDeleteI just bought a set and they are on the way. I can't wait to give this a try. Are you going to sand the points sharper? Do you finish them with anything after you do that like furniture wax or something? Do you glue them on after or before th "hot pin" trick? This is such a hoot!
I bought those needles a little while ago to try them out, but I haven't used them yet. I never thought about giving them a makeover, but I'm going to try your technique now that you've posted it! You always have a lot of great ideas.
ReplyDeletePretty ingenious. I am impressed with your creativity.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to figure out why you would do this because I don't know what a knitting "lifeline" is, I guess?
ReplyDeleteFor that price, I'm sure it's not too bad even if I mess them up. Must try!
ReplyDeleteGood idea! How ever did you think of it!
