Really nice rant she had going on. I figured out the "cost per yard" deal long ago, but was surprised, when I read the comments, how many people hadn't. But I'm frugal like that. I do $/unit at Costco & Sam's, too, and am always amazed at how much more expensive some things are at the well-touted "cheap" places. Some people are really funny--tell 'em anthing and they believe, with no fact checking.
I've never done the "cost per yard" math - but I'm glad to know about it. Not that I felt guilty buying good quality yarn - good materials make good garments. I became an Elizabeth Zimmerman fan long ago, and know first hand that wool is good for keeping you warm, acrylic doesn't do such a great job...
You had earlier asked me about a green Socks That Rock. The colourway is called Monsoon, is part of the their current yarn club and not available to the general public ... yet. (Sorry to reply through your comments, but I couldn't find an email address.)
I never compared the cost before because I let my sense of quality steer me away from Lion Brand products in general. It's not a quality product so why would I make stuff for family and friends with it? People I've taught to knit might try it use it at first, try to convince themselves it's worth knitting with, but they have all come away with the same conclusion. Why spend your valuable time knitting with crap? False economy in my book.

ReplyDeleteAmen to that. I can't stand LB, company or products.
